Heroic Poetry: Brinkman / Frankenthaler / Miró / Mitchell / Motherwell / Nevelson
Composition with white square (Galfetti 79). Original color lithograph in gray, beige, brown, and greenish gray, 1964. 50 signed and numbered impressions on Guarro paper with a watermark of Tàpies-Sala Gaspar published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona, of which ours is n. 42/50. A very good, bright impression in very good condition. In a typical bit of Tàpies humor, the "white square" is actually missing: at the center of the image, outlined in color, is a hand-torn void where the square is defined by its absence. Image size: 570x760mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.
L'Enveloppe (Galfetti 155). Original color lithograph, 1968. 75 signed and numbered impressions printed by Imprimerie Adrien Maeght and published by Galerie Maeght, Paris. Our impression is annotated HC lower left. A very good, bright impression in very good condition. This work is discussed at some lenght in Riva Castleman, Contemporary Prints (NY: Viking, 1973). For Castleman, Curator of Prints and Illustrated Books emeritus at the Museum of Modern Art, this print embodies the essence of Tàpies's prints: "Graffiti or the calligraphic element has taken on an increasingly important role in Tàpies' work in recent years, and particularly in his prints. These remnants of the human compulsion to graphic expression are rarely transcribed by Tàpies as recognizable words. . . . the envelope shapeis indicated by line and the seal is a nervous scribble" (p. 72). Like many of the "vestiges of human presence" in his works, the envelope offers us an attempt at communication that cannot communicate much more than our desire to do so at the same time it consoles us with the occasional beauty that can come from the failure of our attempts to do so. One of Tàpies' masterprints. Image size: 515x675mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.
Angle et taches (Galfetti 157). Original color lithograph, 1968. 75 signed and numbered impressions printed by Imprimerie Arte and published by Maeght Editeur, Paris. Our impression is numbered 50/75 lower left and signed in pencil lower right. A very good impression in very good condition. Image size: 500x700mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.
Fregoli (Galfetti 219). Original color lithograph, 1969. 100 signed and numbered impressions, 12 artist's proofs, and 7 HC impressions published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona, of which ours is n. 45/100. A very good impression in very good condition of this work which suggests images such as a lady's fan or a large shell, but affirms nothing. Image size: 496x692mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.
Nocturn Matinal (Galfetti 242). Original color lithograph, 1970. 145 signed impressions for the deluxe portfolio of the same name. The porfolios are numbered A to Z, 1-100, and HC. There are also 1000 impressions on paper with no margins for the book edition. Our impression is marked is n. 99/100 lower left and signed in pencil lower right. A very good impression in very good condition. Image size: 576x776mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.

Deux oieds sur ocre (Galfetti 317). Original color lithograph, 1972. 75 signed and numbered impressions printed by Imprimerie Arte and published by Maeght Editeur, Paris, of which ours is n. 55/75. Tàpies here seems to be reducing reality to the clouds above and the ground above and the idea that a person must stand upon their own two feet. There was also an unsigned edition of c. 1500 impressions for a 1972 exhibition at Galerie Maeght published in the deluxe art review Derrière le Miroir trimmed to 380x560mm with no margins and a centerfold. A very good, bright impression in very good condition. Image size: 540x680mm. Price: Please call or email for current pricing information.
