Of those 120 portfolios, 20 reserved for the artist were on Japon numbered I/XX to XX/XX, 75 were on Arches (as ours) numbered from 1 to 75, and the remaining 25 also on Arches, were also reserved for the artist. Sur la terre des dieux was published in Paris by A. C. Mazo and printed at Atelier Mourlot by Chagall and Charles Sorlier. Lovers in grey (M. 194). Original color lithograph, 1957. 90 signed & numbered + 6000 unsigned impressions for Jacques Lassaigne's Chagall (Maeght Editeur, 1957), from which our impression comes. The catalogue raisonné notes many forgeries of this work, so that the safest way to purchase it is from the unsigned impression published in Lassaigne's Chagall. Image size: 272x253mm. Price: SOLD.
Couverture, Chagall Lithographe I (M. 281). Original color lithograph, 1960. 25 signed and numbered impressions on Arches and c. 2000 unsigned impressions for Chagall Lithographe I. Also available: a rare unfolded proof of the front cover for Chagall Lithographe I in mint condition. Price: $2750.

The 100 avant la lettre impressions on Arches vellum are a much more mustardy yellow; the 3000 impressions with text are printed on a much lighter weight paper and the color is more of a canary yellow so that the two are instantly distnguishable. Image size:750x555mm. Price: $4300.

Regular edition (bright yellow background) with poster text: $1200.
The Blue Profile (M. 476, Sorlier p. 52). Original color lithograph, 1967. 90 signed and numbered impressions on Arches paper without poster text plus 2000 impressions with text for an exhibition of Chagall's works at Galerie Maeght, Paris. Image size:730x485mm. Price: SOLD.

Lovers with Red Sun (M. 285). Original lithograph, 1960. 100 numbered impressions on paper with large margins plus 2000 impressions published in Chagall Lithographe I. Two unclothed lovers embrace surrounded by blue streams, yellow leaves, and green bushes: the man seems to have fallen asleep, the woman's eyes are wide open. And the sun is red. In the background, a goat watches attentively. Image size: 325x250mm. Price: $1350.
Profile and red child (M. 284). Original lithograph, 1960. 100 numbered impressions on paper with large margins plus 2000 impressions published in Chagall Lithographe I. At left, a green man with a yellow woman superimposed upon his nose appear in a night scene lit by the moon just to the left of his nose. His giant hand reaches out towards a little child clothed in red whose head, shirt, and pants are all a bright red, is passing through the deep purple and blue woods of a nightmare. A very haunting image! Image size: 325x250mm. Price: $950.
The Couple with the blue horse (M. 993 ). Original color lithograph, 1981. 50 signed and numbered impressions with large margins plus 15,000 unsigned impressions for an Hommage à Aimé Maeght, the founder of Galerie Maeght, with which Chagall had been affiliated since 1948. Distribution of the portfolio was halted by Maeght's son Adrien after Aimé Maeght's death and it has not been regularly available. Image size: 380x278mm. Price: $1250.

The sun lower right should be less mustard-color and more yellowish; the gray background should be grayer. The blue horse is about the right shade of blue.
