During the late 1950s, Miro worked with increasing intensity on his graphic works, experimenting with printing lithographs befor each of the sheets had completely dried so that colors would blend together and beginning to work on large-scale etchings.
Figure on a blue background (M. 244). Original color lithograph, 1957. 75 signed & numbered impressions + c. 1200 unsigned impressions for XXe Siecle. One of Miro's most beautiful lithographs on this theme, it was reproduced (via photo-liothography) on the cover of the Christmas 1960 issue of XXe Siecle and inside the review, but this is the original lithograph from 1957. Terres de grands feu (M. 239). Original color lithograph, 1956-57. Edition unknown (c. 500 unsigned impressions). This lithograph served as the cover of an exhibition catalogue published by the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York for a Miro-Artigas exhibit following their exhibit in Paris at Galerie Maeght in 1956. La Bague d'Aurore / Aurora's ring (D. 143). Original color etching and aquatint, 1957. 87signed and numbered impressions (60 on Rives paper numbered from 1/60-60/60) and 17 on Japon nacre paper numbered 1/17-2/17 and i/xv-xv/xv) published by Louis Broder, Paris on paper measuring 380x280mm. This was one of the additional works that Miró created as part of the Suite separate from the original six engravings of La Bague d'Aurore (which were printed on paper measuring 140x115mm). Pochoir Pour 'XX Siecle' (Dupin 1312). Original color pochoir, 1958. Published in the deluxe art review, XXe Siecle in 1958. During the 1950s, Miro allowed several deluxe art reviews, including Derriere le Miroir, to publish pochoir prints of several of his most recent works. This work wasa produced under Miró's supervision by Daniel Jacomet. It shares the look, the paper, and the size of these other works. Hand-painted via stencil. Image size: 315x245mm. Rouge et bleu / Red and Blue (Maeght 269). Original color lithograph, 1960. 100 signed and numbered impressions. Executed after Miró and Joanet Artigas returned from a trip to Japan (during which Artigas celebrated his wedding), this work has been featured in a number of European Miró retrospectives.
