Sans le soleil is a set of meditations on a text by Heraclitus, a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher: "Without the sun, despite the other stars, it would be night." In 1965, Miró created a portfolio of etchings on this subject. The edition consisted of 75 signed portfolios containing 10 unsigned color etchings with aquatint. It came in a paper folder whose cover featured a full-page color etching. That folder, containing the etchings, each loose in its own paper folder, was enclosed in a hard folder covered in silk on which another Miró etching was printed. It was enclosed in a brownish clamshell case for protection. In addition to the color etchings, the frontispiece is a black and white etching. The first 25 portfolios also contains a set of 10 black and white etchings signed and numbered from 1/25 to 25/25. Our portfolio (2/25) also contains two compositions using one of the black plates and one or two of the color plates based upon a very elaborate signature, also in an edition of 25. The size of the paper (B. F. K. Rives or hand-made Auvergne Richard-de-Bas) is approximately 285x222mm. We have all ten of the color etchings (which come with a xerox of the justification page containing Miró's signature and the information about the edition) and all ten of the black and white etchings signed by Miró. Price on request.
