Spanish Art: Artigas / Chillida / Guinovart / Lledos / Miro / Palazuelo / Picasso / Rafols-Casamada / Saura / Tapies
Voyage d'un boeuf au Pays des Couleurs / Jouorney of a side of beef to the kingdom of colors. Original color lithograph, 1970. 75 signed and numbered impressions published by Maeght Editeur in Paris. Artigas has explained his love of lithography as follows: "If I want power, impact, a startling image, I use lithography. With the technique of printing directly off the stone, it is possible to get a maximum of ink on the paper. This ... allows ... powerful color." Image size: 600x480mm. Price: $650.
Jeux d'eau / The play of the Water (Refraction). Original color lithograph, 1972. 75 signed and numbered impressions on Rives published by Maeght Editeur in Paris. Artigas has explained his love of lithography as follows: "If I want power, impact, a startling image, I use lithography. With the technique of printing directly off the stone, it is possible to get a maximum of ink on the paper. This ... allows ... powerful color." Image size: 655x500mm. Price: $600.
La Lecture / The Reading. This ... allows ... powerful color." The area at the top of the image is too red: it should be black, then gray. Image size: 655x500mm. Price: $700.
Nonchalance jaune / Yellow Nonchalance. This ... allows ... powerful color." Image size: 645x590mm. Price: $700.
La danse ininterompue / The uninterrupted dance. This ... allows ... powerful color." The torso is too brown: it should be gray; then the sky should be black as night. This lithograph is based upon Tintoretto's Creation of the Milky Way, which depicts the moment that Juno, awakening to discover that Jove is trying to get the infant Hercules to suck from her breast, which would make him immortal, twists away from her husband's illegitimate child and her breast milk shoots out, creating the Milky Way in the heavens. Here, the universe is being born in the energy shooting out from the hips of the nude figure suggesting that the universe runs on sexual energy. Image size: 645x590mm. Price: $700.
La chmbre mouillee / The moist room. Original color lithograph, 1973. 75 signed and numbered impressions on Arches published by Maeght Editeur in Paris. Artigas has explained his love of lithography as follows: "If I want power, impact, a startling image, I use lithography. With the technique of printing directly off the stone, it is possible to get a maximum of ink on the paper. This ... allows ... powerful color." The slice on the right side of the torso should be peach colored, not off-white. Image size: 645x590mm. Price: $650.
La cruche de mon dos. Original color lithograph, 1974. 75 signed and numbered impressions on Arches published by Maeght Editeur in Paris. Artigas has explained his love of lithography as follows: "If I want power, impact, a startling image, I use lithography. With the technique of printing directly off the stone, it is possible to get a maximum of ink on the paper. This ... allows ... powerful color." A "cruche" is a pot, a "dos" is a back; the image suggests a torso composed of fragments of ceramic sculptures. Image size: 660x490mm. Price: $650.
Quand un navire s'en va. This ... allows ... powerful color." The figure on the right suggests the carved wooden sculptures that used to adorn the bows of sailing ships; the black and white marks on the left side suggest tables in a newspaper (see Artigas' ceramic sculpture Le Journal). Image size: 810x610mm. Price: $750.
