Dora Vallier has called Garache the first post-modern artist of the nude in whose works there was no sense of space or place and no shadows. I once asked Garache about what aooeared t be a shadow in this piece; he looked at it and replied, "It could be water," neither affirming it to be so or denying that it could be a shadow.
