De profundis / From depths of soul, I cry to you, O Lord (C&R 100d) Original aquatint, drypoint, burnisher, roulette, 1927. 450 impressions signed and dated in the plate on the left for the Miserere (there are no pencil-signed impressions). Commissioned by Ambroiose Vollard. Ours is a very good dark impression in excellent condition. Image size: 436x602mm. Price: SOLD.
Des Ongles et des Becs / Tooth and Nail (C&R. 103) Original aquatint, drypoint, burnisher, roulette, 1926. 450 impressions for the Miserere, Rouault's masterpiece and one of the most important series of the twentieth century. Signed in the plate at left (there are no pencil-signed proofs). The work depicts a society woman ready to go out and fight the enemy "tooth and nail" in her armor of low-cut gown and jeweled necklace. This impression has just undergone conservation and is in excellent conditon. Image size: 581x447mm. Price: $3900.
Vierge aux sept glaives / The Virgin pierced by seven swords (C&R. 106c) Original aquatint, drypoint, burnisher, roulette, 1926. 450 impressions for the Miserere, Rouault's masterpiece and one of the most important series of the twentieth century. Signed in the plate at lower center right (there are no pencil-signed proofs). This impression has just undergone conservation and is in excellent conditon. Illustrated Musée National d'Art Moderne, 1971. Image size: 578x408mm. Price: $6000.
Obéissant jusqu'à la mort et à la mort de la croix / Obedient unto the death, even death on the cross (C&R. 110b). Original aquatint, drypoint, burnisher, roulette, scraper, 1926. 450 impressions for the Miserere, Rouault's masterpiece and one of the most important series of the twentieth century. Signed in the plate at lower center left (there are no pencil-signed proofs). This impression has just undergone conservation and is in excellent conditon. Image size: 578x408mm. Price: $6000.
Squelette (C & R 222). Original aquatint, 1926. Printed in 1927 for Ambroise Vollard by Jacquemin in an edition of 425 impressions intended for Vollard's proposed edition, which ultimately fell through due to his death in an automobile accident in 1939. The prints were not published until 1966 by Fequet et Baudier in Paris. Quatorze Planche Gravées Pour Les Fleurs de Mal contained all 14 of the black and white aquatinits which were completed from 1926-1928. A brilliant impression in very good condition. Illustrated Musée National d'Art Moderne, 1971. Image size: 350x225mm. Price: $1500.
"Fiere autant qu'un vivant, de sa noble stature..." / "As proud as if she were still alive of hier noble descent" (C & R 277b). Original color aquatint, 1937. Printed in 1937 for Ambroise Vollard by Robert Lacourière in an edition of 225 unsigned impressions on Montval intended for Vollard's proposed edition, which ultimately fell through due to his death in an automobile accident in 1939. Les Fleurs de Mal 1936-38 (En Couleurs) contained all 12 of the color aquatinits that were completed from 1926-1928. There were also 50 sets of the black plate only. A brilliant impression with rich colors in very good condition except for a very thin stain along the extreme left margin. Image size: 300x214mm. Price: $2950.
Fille au grand chapeau (C&R 29d). Original etching, 1928. 225 pencil-signed impressions (175 on Van Gelder and 50 onjapon); there were also 305 portfolios for Reincarnations of Père Ubu (1935) containing suites of the etcings on Arches and Rives papers. Ours is a brilliant proof onVan Gelder signed in the plate. Illustrated in From Manet to Hockney (Victoria and Albert Museum, p. 213); Illustrated Musée National d'Art Moderne, 1971, p. 222.
